Hi, I'm Aki!
I am a Malaysian illustrator, content and graphics designer, occasional crafter, and a self-proclaimed cute culture connoisseur. I began drawing the day I could hold a pencil and started telling stories with my art at the age of seven. Japanese manga (comic) and ‘kawaii’ (cute) culture play an enormous part of my art development and style. While they remain my largest sources of inspiration, I also draw (pun intended 😉) inspiration from music, films, animals, as well as cute stationaries and packaging. When I am not illustrating or crafting, I love indulging in geeky hobbies (read manga, collect collectibles, to name a few), watch films and eat good food. I particularly enjoy spending hours in craft/dollar/book stores. I also really enjoy non-caffeinated tea. My dream is to create a story solely from myself; without catering to any particular genre, or following any format. Just a story I want to tell.” Like to get in touch? Email me at [email protected]

kuchibread
So you're thinking: what in the world is 'kuchibread'? kuchibread (or another version, 'kuchimai') is an old Malaysian slang used to describe something small, or tiny. It was widely used during my mother's time. Being very close to my mother, I wanted to call myself something that was personal and would remind me of her, the person I credit as the root of my love for art. kuchibread also serves as a reminder for myself: to take small, kuchibread steps in bettering myself, and my art. |
